These silk cocoons are naturally stiff, but soften when wet - use them to add interest and texture to felting projects, or poke a hole through the cocoon (in any direction) and thread onto a needle and thread/yarn/fiber to incorporate into a knitting, crochet, weaving, jewelry, or spinning project. These cocoons have been dyed with special fiber-reactive silk dyes; and silk cocoons will soften if wetted and/or heated for a long period of time. A quick dip in water to set an art yarn will be no difficulty at all, but harsher treatment may alter your cocoons. If you intend to use them for wet felting or other wet applications, particular under heated conditions, color fastness and cocoon integrity should be tested under the conditions you intend to use.
Classy Squid Fiber Co. fibers are designed to provide a wonderful spinning experience, but would also be gorgeous if used for felted designs or as accents in weaving. My Organic Polwarth wool is sourced from the Falkland Islands, UK, where the sheep are raised free of pesticides & chemicals in a pristine environment. Fibers are hand-dyed by me, Amanda, in my smoke-free, pet-free studio using professional grade acid dyes. I do my utmost to run my dyeing studio in an environmentally-friendly manner.
To care for your creations and avoid felting, hand-wash your items in warm (not hot) water with a mild wool wash such as Eucalan or Soak, without agitation, and allow to air-dry.
